A Virginia college placed an assistant professor on administrative leave after they defended pedophilia. The assistant professor faced backlash over comments they made regarding their research into pedophilia.

On Tuesday, Old Dominion University announced they had taken action against Dr. Allyn Walker after an interview with the Prostasia Foundation. The organization claims to be a “San Francisco-based child protection organization” that also “supports the sale of child-like sex dolls, advocates in support of the sexual depiction of minors in drawings and cartoons and believes sex offense registries don’t protect children.”

During the interview, Walker suggested calling pedophiles “maps” or “minor attracted persons” because the term is less stigmatized. The Prostasia Foundation’s executive director has claimed this type of behavior isn’t a choice and people need to know how to prevent them from acting.

Walker’s interview prompted backlash from students who protested and called for the professor to be fired. Many online also came out in opposition to the comments, saying this is normalizing perversion and putting children’s safety at risk to protect pedophiles’ feelings.

The university has strongly condemned Walker’s remarks and said the decision to place Walker on leave was to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment. Meanwhile, ODU President Brian Hemphill said “I want to state in the strongest terms possible that child sexual abuse is morally wrong and has no place in our society.”
