New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is set to be replaced by Democrat Eric Adams. On Tuesday, the mayoral race came to a close with Adams’ pulling ahead of his Republican challenger, Curtis Sliwa.

“For a young man from south Jamaica Queens that grew up with all the challenges that New Yorkers face, it is not just a victory, it is a vindication of faith,” Adams stated in his victory speech.

These results came after de Blasio completed two terms and submitted paperwork recently to run for governor. Meanwhile, while speaking to supporters, Sliwa spoke about being the underdog in the heavily blue city’s mayoral race.

“You knew that I was a product of the subways, the streets, the housing projects,” he stated. “You knew that I was a man of the people embraced by black, white, Hispanic, Asian, gay straight, transgender — it doesn’t matter who the people of New York City are, they know for 42 years with the Guardian Angels.”

Tonight is not the end of a campaign

Political campaigns end, but political movements don’t

We started a political movement—a movement focused on people & not politicians

I put animals, homeless & mentally-ill people first

This is not the end—it’s just the beginning.

Sliwa stressed he won’t give up and New Yorkers shouldn’t either. Meanwhile, other candidates running for city office are worried there will be problems counting ballots.
