Alex Murdaugh, the disgraced South Carolina attorney has denied killing his wife and his 22-year-old son. Murdaugh, however, has admitted to lying to investigators regarding the last time he saw his family members alive.
Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and Paul Murdaugh, 22, were discovered deceased with multiple gunshot wounds on June 7, 2021 by Alex Murdaugh. Previously, he stated that he was not near the kennels the night of the murder and that he had last seen his wife and son at dinner.
When lawyers questioned Murdaugh about his prior statements, he changed his tune and admitted to lying in his past remarks.
“I did lie to them,” Murdaugh admitted. “On June the 7th, I wasn’t thinking clearly. I don’t think I was capable of reason and I lied about being out there and I’m so sorry that I did.”
Murdaugh blamed his lies on his painkiller addiction. He claims that they caused him “paranoid thinking.” He has since been clean for 535 days.
